SUNNYDAYS · DESTINATION WEDDINGS IN SPAIN

Costa Brava wedding photographer

You’re bringing your favorite people to a beautiful part of Spain. I’d love your photographs to hold onto how that felt: the anticipation, the hugs, the long dinner, and the moments you didn’t realize anyone had noticed.

I’m Alejandro Cebrián. I photograph weddings across the Costa Brava and the Empordà with a natural approach, thoughtful portraits, and a little room for the unexpected.

For a wedding you can actually be part of

When you picture your wedding, you probably see more than a beautiful coastline. You see your friends meeting each other, your parents hearing your vows, and everyone finally sitting at the same table. Those are the things I want you to find in your photographs, alongside the place you chose.

I work quietly during the moments that are already happening. For portraits, I’ll help you with the light, give you simple direction, and make time for photographs that feel considered without taking over the day. We can usually begin with a short session after the ceremony and decide whether a few minutes before sunset would add something worthwhile.

Real weddings on the coast and in the Empordà

A complete wedding story tells you more than a handful of portraits. Look at the getting-ready photographs, the family moments, the changing light, and the dance floor. These galleries show different ways a destination wedding here can look and feel.

Mas Pastora

Britt and Daniel’s wedding in a garden setting in Llafranc. A lovely reference if you’re picturing a coastal stay with the celebration tucked away from the waterfront.

Cortal Gran

Marina and Martí’s celebration brings together the castle, its gardens, and a dinner outdoors. Look through the story to see how the setting changes as the day unfolds.

Castell de Peralada

A castle wedding in the inland Empordà, with room for both a sense of place and quieter portraits. Explore Carla and Pol’s wedding to see more than the castle façade.

Alejandro Cebrian fotografo de bodas barcelona 1

Hi, I’m Alejandro

I’m based in Barcelona and photograph weddings throughout Catalonia, including the Costa Brava. After more than ten years and over 300 weddings, I still enjoy the first conversation just as much: hearing why you chose this place, who’s coming with you, and what you’re looking forward to most.

If you’re planning from out of Spain, we can get to know each other over a video call and work through the photography plans in English. You can ask questions before everything is decided. I’ll help you understand the coverage, review the photography timeline with you and your planner, and explain what you’ll receive before you book.

Find the part of the Costa Brava that feels like you

The Costa Brava isn’t one backdrop. A small cove, a seaside town, and an inland stone village create very different photographs. I’d choose a portrait location around where you’re staying and how much time you want to spend there, rather than trying to fit the whole region into your wedding day.

Calella de Palafrugell & Llafranc

For a relaxed coastal feel, I’d look at a short walk near the waterfront, the smaller beaches, and the buildings around them. This can work beautifully for a welcome-day session. We’ll choose one stretch and a time that suits the light, then leave room for a coffee or dinner afterward.

Begur, Sa Tuna & Aiguablava

Begur gives you a choice between the village and its coves. I’d start by asking whether you imagine stone streets or water behind you. Access, parking, steps, and summer visitors all matter here, so a shorter route that we can enjoy comfortably often makes more sense than several stops.

S’Agaró & Sant Pol

An option to consider if you like a seaside setting with a more structured, architectural feel. For a session near the coastal path, we’ll check the exact section, the light, and how comfortable it is to walk in your clothes and shoes. You don’t need to climb onto rocks for a photograph.

Pals & Peratallada

These inland villages offer a different side of the region: stone, quieter backgrounds, and a more enclosed sense of place. I’d suggest them for couples drawn to texture and architecture. A separate session gives us more freedom than trying to squeeze a village visit between your ceremony and dinner.

Cadaqués

If Cadaqués is part of your trip, we can discuss a session that includes the waterfront and a little of the old town. I’d treat it as its own plan, rather than a quick detour from a wedding elsewhere. The travel and walking should feel worthwhile for you, not like another appointment to rush through.

Tossa de Mar & Blanes

The southern Costa Brava can suit couples who want the sea alongside historic surroundings. We can explore which setting feels right for an engagement or after-wedding session, and check access before choosing it. If you’re already celebrating at a venue with a sea view, we may have everything we need on site.

For public beaches and village streets, I’ll review the practical details before we commit to a plan. Private gardens and venues need their own permission. If you have somewhere meaningful in mind, send it over; the best starting point is often your connection to the place.

A few good minutes together can be enough

You don’t have to disappear from your wedding to have photographs of the two of you. I’d usually start with around 15–20 minutes after the ceremony, using a location close to the celebration. If the evening light is beautiful, another 5–10 minutes can give us a different atmosphere without missing much of dinner.

Costa Brava wedding venues, through a photographer’s eyes

Before choosing a venue, think about where you’ll get ready, where your guests will gather, and what happens if you need to move indoors. The same place can photograph very differently depending on the season, the ceremony position, and the spaces included in your booking. Here are several settings I’d explore with you.

hostal la gavina wedding

Hostal de La Gavina, S’Agaró

A seaside hotel option if you like established gardens, classic architecture, and the possibility of bringing several parts of the weekend together. I’d look at your ceremony position and the route to dinner before choosing portrait locations. Explore the venue’s wedding information.

El Convent de Blanes

An option for couples who love a historic building with gardens facing the sea. I’d want to see which spaces you’ll use outdoors and which interiors are available, so that both the main plan and the alternative feel considered. Explore El Convent’s event spaces.

Cortal Gran

Near Sant Pere Pescador, Cortal Gran combines castle architecture and gardens with the countryside around it. I’d choose a few locations that fit the route of your day, rather than taking you from corner to corner. See my photographs and venue notes from Cortal Gran.

Castell de Peralada

Peralada is an inland choice, so I’d plan it as an Empordà wedding rather than assume beach photographs are just outside. The castle and gardens offer their own visual story. Explore my Peralada wedding story and venue overview.

La Farinera Sant Lluís

In Pont de Molins, this is another inland Alt Empordà option. It makes sense to start with the atmosphere of the estate and the spaces you’ve booked, keeping the wedding itself at the center of the photographs. View a wedding and venue notes at La Farinera.

There are more places to explore in my venue directory and notes (in Spanish). If you’ve already found your venue, tell me its name and the date. We can talk about your particular plans, rather than starting with a generic list of photo locations.

Planning from another time zone? We can make this straightforward.

You shouldn’t need to be in Spain to understand how your photography will work. We’ll start with a conversation in English, look at the dates and events you want covered, and put the details in a proposal you can review at home.

Before you book

We’ll discuss coverage, the photography team, optional film or video, the delivery, and any travel or accommodation costs. I’ll make clear what’s included, so you can compare the proposal with what you actually need.

Before you travel

Share your venue, getting-ready addresses, planner’s details, and draft schedule. We’ll work through the photographs that matter to you and choose realistic portrait windows. If different generations or languages are coming together, I’d love to hear about that too.

The welcome hugs belong in the story, too

Boda en Hotel Mas Pastora Llafranc Fotografo de bodas 00029

A destination wedding often begins before the ceremony day. A welcome dinner can be the first time your families meet, and the first evening when everyone is finally in the same place. If that part matters to you, we can include it in the coverage.

We can also discuss an engagement session, a rehearsal dinner, or a relaxed session after the wedding. We’ll choose the events where photography adds something meaningful, with the right amount of coverage for each. You don’t need to turn every part of your trip into a photo shoot.

A photography timeline with room to breathe

01 · Start with your ceremony

Send me the actual ceremony time, the venue layout, and where you’ll get ready. I’ll review what happens before and afterward with you. If you want a first look, we can compare that option with seeing each other for the first time at the ceremony.

02 · Keep portraits close

We’ll pick a small number of nearby backgrounds and leave time to get there. Family photographs can usually sit toward the end of cocktail hour, with a short list prepared in advance. We’ll adjust the order for relatives who need a seat or an earlier photograph.

03 · Make the evening yours

Dinner, speeches, and the first dance should have their own rhythm. If you’d love sunset portraits, I’ll coordinate a brief window with you and your planner. We’ll also check whether the sun disappears behind the venue before the published sunset time.

For more ideas before our call, read my wedding timeline guide. It’s a starting point; we’ll adapt the plan to your venue, traditions, and priorities.

When to get married on the Costa Brava

The best month depends on how you want to spend the day. For a summer wedding, I’d think carefully about shade during the ceremony and the comfort of your guests. In the cooler months, the priority may be keeping portraits within the shorter daylight window and making the most of your indoor spaces.

There isn’t one weather table that describes the whole coast and inland Empordà. The figures below use the Palafrugell area as a coastal planning reference. Your particular venue may feel warmer, cooler, or more exposed, and we’ll check the forecast closer to the date.

Temperature source: Climate-Data.org, Palafrugell, 1991–2021 averages, rounded and converted to Fahrenheit. Sunrise and sunset are calculated for the 15th of each month in 2027 at 41.917° N, 3.164° E, using a clear theoretical horizon and local time, including daylight saving time. These are planning references, not a forecast or a guarantee of usable light at your venue.

We can use that information alongside your schedule, rather than choose a ceremony time from a table alone. My guide to the best time of year to get married in Catalonia explores more of those decisions.

Digital photographs, film, and the sound of the day

Digital photography is the foundation of my wedding coverage. If you love the texture and color of analog film, we can add it alongside the digital story. I’ll show you examples so you can decide whether it belongs in your collection.

You can also include wedding video. Voices, vows, and speeches bring another dimension to the memory, and we can plan photography and video together. The proposal will set out the team, coverage, and deliverables for the services you choose.

A few practical things I’d talk through with you

One area is usually enough

The coast looks compact on a map, but moving between towns can use a surprising amount of your day. I’d keep wedding portraits close to the venue and save a longer coastal trip for another session. Share the addresses before we build a schedule around them.

A sea view doesn’t promise a sunset over water

The coastline changes direction, and so does the sun’s position through the year. We can have beautiful evening light with the sea behind you, but I won’t promise a particular sunset angle without checking the location and date.

Have an indoor plan you actually like

Wind can change the feel of a ceremony as much as rain. Before the wedding, we’ll review sheltered portrait locations and the indoor alternative with your venue or planner. A good backup gives us choices without making the photographs the main concern of your day.

Questions about your Costa Brava wedding photography

I’m based in Barcelona and photograph weddings across the Costa Brava and the Empordà. Tell me where you’re celebrating so I can explain the arrangements and include any relevant travel or accommodation in your proposal.

Yes. I speak English, Spanish, and Catalan. We can get to know each other on a video call, discuss your priorities, and review the photography timeline in English. Let me know your time zone when we arrange a conversation.

Your proposal will depend on the hours, team, and events you’d like covered, plus any film or video you choose. Send me your date, venue, and an outline of the weekend. I’ll explain the price in euros, what’s included, and how tax and any travel costs are treated.

My usual starting point is around ten hours, from getting ready through part of the party. A shorter celebration or a wedding spread across several days may need a different plan. We’ll use your actual schedule to choose the coverage.

No. During portraits, I’ll guide you with simple suggestions and choose light that works well. You can tell me what makes you feel comfortable and show me photographs you like. Most of the wedding will be photographed as it happens.

Yes, subject to availability. We can include those events alongside the wedding day and decide how much coverage each needs. Tell me all the dates you’re considering when you inquire.

Yes. I’ll recommend the team based on your getting-ready locations, guest count, schedule, and the perspectives you’d like in the story. It can be especially useful when important moments are happening in different places at the same time.

Yes. We can prepare a coordinated photography and video proposal, with the coverage, team, and films clearly described. Analog film photography can also be discussed as an addition.

You’ll receive an edited online gallery that you can view and share from home. Before you book, the proposal will explain the photographs included, delivery timeframe, gallery access, and any additional products in your collection.

We’ll check the exact location before deciding. Access, walking routes, crowds, and any permissions matter, particularly at private venues or gardens. I’d rather choose a place we can use comfortably than promise a location we haven’t confirmed.

Absolutely. Share their details and the draft schedule, and we can coordinate the photography windows around the rest of your celebration. I’ll contribute advice about light and photographs while your planner manages the wider event.

Start by sending your date, venue, and the events you’d like photographed. I’ll confirm availability, we’ll discuss the details, and you’ll receive a proposal. Your booking is secured once the agreed contract and reservation payment are completed.
